Jin shin jyutsu

Jin shin jyutsu is a belief-related holistic treatment which uses the energy paths in your body to deeply relax and heal.
What is jin shin jyutsu?
Jin shin jyutsu is a holistic, healing treatment, which uses gentle touch to balance your body, mind and spirit. Jin shin jyutsu is a bit like acupuncture, in that it is based on the idea that our bodies are mapped by paths which carry "qi" (say "chee") or energy; when the energy flows freely, you are balanced and healthy. When the flow of energy is blocked, you experience pain, discomfort, or poor physical or emotional health; you are unbalanced.

Indian head massage

Indian head massage is a relaxing holistic treatment that uses acupressure massage on the head, face, neck and shoulders. It aims to rebalance your body's energies.
What is Indian head massage?
Indian head massage is an ancient therapeutic treatment that has been practised in India for thousands of years, and is incredibly relaxing. Part of the Hindu health care practice of Ayurveda, Indian head massage focuses on your head, neck and shoulders. Indian head massage is a deep massage, which uses a variety of pressure and techniques that tap into your seven "'chakras" or paths of energy and encourage healing and balance in your whole body.

Hydromassage

Hydromassage is a whole-body spa treatment in which high pressure jets of water massage your skin to stimulate your circulation.
What is hydromassage?
Hydromassage is a water-based spa treatment which uses high pressure jets of water to massage your skin and stimulate your circulation. A hydromassage is much more powerful than a Jacuzzi or a whirlpool bath, and the water used will be hotter. This is a treatment rather than an experience.
What is hydromassage good for?
A good hydromassage is a very satisfying treatment - you can feel it working even as you're having it. A rigorous underwater massage, the powerful jets stimulate your circulation and get blood and lymph moving around your body, and to the surface of your skin. The heat of the water opens and cleanses your pores, so you'll find your skin looks and feels cleansed, refreshed and invigorated.

Hammams, Rasuls and Serails

What's the mud and what's the steam room?
First things first - hammams, rasuls (also spelled "rhassoul") and serails are all kinds of steam room. They are tiled, and generally quite dimly lit, and - at a spa anyway - usually seat up to four people. In a spa, they are usually used for mud treatments - you coat yourself in different kinds of mud, and then go into the serail/rasul to steam in it.
What are these mud-steam rooms like?
In UK spa-terms, "hammam", "rasul", "rhassoul" and "serail" usually describe a single room, with central water taps, and recessed bench-seats, decorated in blue, silver and gold-tinged tiles in the style of the Turkish Ottaman baths. They are sometimes referred to as "chambers" (serail mud chamber, for example) but don't be alarmed; they are more like exotic luxurious grottos.

Floatation

Floatation (sometime spelled flotation) treatments support you on a bed of water as your anxieties slip away. The salt solution in the floatation tank or pool is so dense that you can float weightlessly and without effort. Free of gravity, you can achieve deep, deep relaxation, relieving stress, aches and pain.
What is floatation?
Floatation is a deeply-relaxing body treatment that allows you to experience total weightlessness. It's like physical dreaming. Unlike floating in the ocean or pool, where you need to contribute physically to staying afloat, this spa treatment allows you complete weightless relaxation.

Detox delights

Introduction
Magazines are crammed with diets and detox all year round. When you've overdone it, the choice seems to be between eating very little food, or eating things that seem very little like food. Neither of them ever seem very tempting.
But detox doesn't have to mean wheatgrass and thalassotherapy. Lots of spas offer delicious treats for your body and your palate that are much easier to swallow, and don't make you feel like you've been run over.
What is a detox treatment?
A detox treatment is any therapy, massage, wrap or regime that helps you to get rid of the toxins in your body. The idea of detox is to improve your general health, boost your circulation and help your body's immune system so that you are less likely to get sick and will feel and look better generally.

Deep tissue massage

Deep tissue massage uses slow, firm strokes and pressure to ease and release tension deep in your muscles.
What is deep tissue massage?
Deep tissue massage does what it says "on the tin" - it is a massage technique that works on the deeper layers of muscle tissue. Similar to Swedish massage, deep tissue massage uses slower and firmer strokes and pressure than other treatments - deep finger pressure that concentrates on particular areas, and follows or goes across the fibres of muscles and tendons. Deep tissue massage is a blanket term that describes a number of different therapies, and is often used medically by physiotherapists, chiropractors and so on.
Deep tissue massage features in most forms of massage to some degree, including:

Baths

Roman baths, Turkish baths, hot springs, babbling brooks, water is the essence of a traditional spa. You can have a spa bath either as part of a package, or as a treatment in itself.
Submersion in water is a treat on its own. In a spa, your bath will probably be bigger than your usual, and will certainly feel more luxurious than the one at home. The whole room will be specially lit, scented and heated ready for you. Whilst just being in warm or hot water cleanses and relaxes you, it is what you add to the water, and the ritual and time you take over the ritual, that really distinguishes your experience.
Aromatherapy baths
Aromatherapy oils are added to the bath. These have a variety of effects. You might have eucalyptus added to the bath, which is particularly good if you have a cold or blocked sinuses. You might have lavender to soothe and relax you. A hot bath infused with sensual essential oils will soothe and relax, or invigorate you.
